The Right Way to Bend PVC Conduit Pipe

PVC Conduit Pipes are simple tubing enclosures used to lay electrical wiring in various domestic and commercial premises. They form an integral part of every electrical system. For any electrical installation process, it becomes inevitable to create turns for supplying power to the area of application.

While using Conduit Fittings such as bend, elbow, it becomes inconvenient to lay and pull off electrical wiring during the installation process. Hence, it becomes necessary to know how to bend PVC conduit pipes to create continuous sharp turns.

This makes it easier to pull the wires because there are no bumps / connections in the middle, just the smooth inner surface of the line. It also saves the user, the cost and hassle of buying conduit fittings.

Spring-bendable conduit pipes come in very handy when making such sharp turns. You just need to mark the area where you want to create a bend then insert the spring into the passage of the PVC pipe.

It is always a good idea to tie a cable at the end of the spring. Because it makes it easier to pull off with the long piece of conduit pipe. Now bend the tube manually using your thigh or any other support surface.

That’s it:

In case your pipe is not designed for spring bending. You can resort to the use of heating to soften the pipe and bend it as needed for the given application.

Heating is not a best practice. As it releases toxic fumes that can be harmful to the health of the electrician. It can also damage the pipe or change the mechanical properties like the amount of pressure the pipe can handle, etc.

Since this process is very hectic & dangerous, it is always advisable to purchase good quality conduit pipes that can adhere to the spring bending requirements.
